I remember walking into Jeryd’s parents house one day when we were first dating, and seeing branches, covered in lights and ornaments hanging from their ceiling. That was their Christmas tree. At first I didn’t understand it. But now, after having children, I realize the genius behind that idea.
Fast forward
December 2006- Logan is two years old and it is our first Christmas in Spokane. We buy a huge glorious spruce and dress it accordingly. I am super excited because this is one of only a handful of Christmases that I have had the opportunity to celebrate thus far in my life. I put up my precious, carefully selected ornaments and it all makes me so happy.
The next morning I awake to the sound of glass breaking. Crash…crash…crash….
I run out to my beloved Christmas tree only to see my son taking off and throwing my carefully placed ornaments. I run to him, mad as all hell.
He takes one look at me, puts his hands on his hips and says……”God Damn it!”
He must have read it on my face…
How intuitive…

From then on we have suspended branches, ornaments and lights from the ceiling, far away from the curious and destructive hands of little children. This is our Christmas tree.

So don't be surprised if you come over and see our tree suspended from the ceiling...
It's just how we do it.
Merry Christmas.

Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteGenius!!
ReplyDeleteI second the Genius comment. I haven't put a tree up since I started grad school because I don't want to completely rearrange the furniture in my living room when I'd rather be writing papers This is a great idea that I can do in an hour! Thanks Superhero Mom!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Poagie story ever. I will never forget that one. GOD DAMMIT MOM.
